The AVERAGE card is much stronger, but that's not what power creep is, power creep is when the BEST things now are better than the BEST things before. Ignoring the alpha and beta for fairness: Mage had Mana Wyrm for 1, Rogue had Conceal, Hunter had 2 cost Unleash the Hounds, Leeroy not only existed but at 4 mana and half of the classes had ways to OTK with him, Soulfire had 0 cost, Undertaker was one of the most oppressive cards in the game's history when Naxx launched, ect. It's almost as if you weren't playing early on when there were tons of cards that were just blatantly OP.
There's a huge bias every time people say this. Newer cards are more powerful than older cards. Vanish was the aoe of rogue to reset the board if they were getting zerged (prep + vanish was 3 mana at the time too), while sometimes also being an advancement for completing the quest while doing it. When cavers was viable, they were fucked because infinite rush-lifesteal big guys, or inmense burst form hand trough charge, and not really because of vanish. Vanish was never a problem for board centric decks when dealing with caverns. Not to mention, it happened when they were talking about how they reworked plague of madness in rogue to avoid giving them aoe, and that IN ADDITION, they would also remove vanish from the hall of fame for class identity reasons (rogue dealing with wide boards). Caverns wasnt even standard when it happened, and it was garbage in wild. I just want to correct that vanish was removed because it made caverns bellow extreemly hard to deal with for board centric decks.
